Tapawingo is a very highly rated restaurant in northern Michigan.

I have eaten there a couple of times and really enjoyed it. Once was a special Michigan chefs dinner that was wonderful, and the second time I went with friends. They make the best of high quality local ingredients, and service is excellent but not stuffy. The tasting menu is a bit expensive for what you get, especially if you opt for the matching wine package. The regular menu is really the way to go, and expect to spend $75-$100 per person depending on drinks and/or wine. The place was converted from an old house into the restaurant, but is very contemporary. Nice deck and yard overlooking a small lake.

Here's a rave too--we once made a trip from Cincinnati just to eat again at Tapawingo. I know, foodie.

Oh my, Tapawingo certainly brings back fond memories of beautiful summers and fine dining in the Charlevoix area.

Let's not forget the other restaurant nearby, the Rowe Inn , which is just as good.

I came from California to eat at Tapawingo and Rowe Inn...... But I did grow up in Petoskey and so I had another reason to visit. Both are excellent, but the Petoskey area has a number of fine restaurants. Another great one is Douglas Lake Bar, up near Pellston. Ditto for New York restaurant in Harbor Springs.
