Can Del Taco come to Chicago?

This is a great Mexican fast food chain...much better than Taco Smell, IMHO.

With the plethora of tacquerias in Chicago, Chicago does not need a so-so Mexican chain, Del Taco is better than Taco Bell but does not come close to the quality (and cheap prices) that the many many tacquerias located here offer.

If one can’t find a good tacqueria in the Chicago area, which has the third largest Hispanic population in the U.S., someone isn’t looking very hard. @:-)

Agree that Del Taco is better than Pizza Bell, but that ain't saying much. When I lived in Southern California, I was a huge Naugles fan. Excellent chain, put Del Taco to shame. Del Taco absorbed them in the late 80's.

I guess thats your opinion. I'd say that you are wrong on your "so-so" commentary.

Third largest Hispanic population? What stats are you counting?

Thanks for the correction, Chicago is the 4th largest
Chicago
The Windy City's population growth during the next decade will be 100 percent Hispanic
December 01, 2004
By Eileen Davis Hudson
The Windy City may be significantly colder than Mexico or Puerto Rico, but that hasn't stopped the flood of emigrants from those places. Chicago's 1.6 million Hispanic population is 75 percent Mexican, the largest Mexican population east of the Mississippi River, and 11 percent Puerto Rican. The fourth-largest Hispanic market in the United States, Chicago is poised to see its Hispanic population increase sharply from its current 17.4 percent of the total market.

Opinion is what this board is all about, if you are located in PHX and think that Del Taco is the best Mexican around, you for sure have not tried very much food out there (in my opinion)

edited to add: appreciate the census info skofarrell

I love the taquerias in Chicago -- but sometimes that "processed food taste" is what I crave.

Looking at skofarrel's Census post, I still see Chicago as being 3rd?

Even from the western-most city limit of Chicago to the eastern-most city limit of Naperville, this is still 20 miles!

You just can't replace Macho Nachos! They're distinctly Del Taco!

What he said. Del Taco is OK in California, but IME the concept doesn't travel. Every non-CA DT I've been to has sucked.
