Vong’s Thai Kitchen
Vong’s Thai Kitchen
6 W Hubbard Street
http://www.vongsthaikitchen.com/
Just had dinner tonight here.
Started out with the tea smoked duck w/bun and crab/shrimp fritters.
Duck was dry and just ok. Crab/shrimp fritters tasted as if some old/bad seafood was added, taste was way off and not fresh.
For Entrees
A special of pan seared scallops and shrimp with a Veracruz like sauce, strange and not good.
Crabmeat Pad Thai was good but just as good is the $5 pad thai elsewhere.
My guess is if I had tried the curries I would have had the same attitude as the pad thai, probably good but just good does not justify the price as there is excellent elsewhere for less money.

This place was great several years back when it opened; I've heard of some recent reviews that suggest it is just mediocre. Glad to see a recent opinion.
I used to enjoy the spicy thai coconut chicken soup.

One of the best meals we ever had was here in its previous version (Vong's?).
Luckily a physician friend invited and paid. Something like $75 a person before wine.

Just another example of an upscale place opening, then downscaling itself to please the masses who claim that it was too expensive. Not a bad place now, but I do miss the old days.
