Remember how good Browns Fried Chicken was?

Back in the late 60's, early 70's they were the best. And the biscuits! I don't know if they were in other places, but in the Chicago burbs they ruled. Now you can't find anything like it. Fast food chicken is horrible these days.

I'd kill for some Brown's fried chicken. Wow, was that in bad taste!

But seriously, Brown's is still around but I don't know if it's as good as it used to be--never had it then and haven't had it recently.

I pass by one at Oakton and Crawford in Skokie all the time. Never been, so the only association in my head is with the Palatine thing.

I agree that after Palatine it got a little weird. I'd just as soon go to Harold's anyways.

Didn't they finally catch the guy last Spring or something? 10 years or something later someone spilled the beans.

If only they'd expand beyond the south side. We like chicken on the north side too!

There was a Harold's at Wilson and Broadway or Sheridan for awhile. I almost went once, but that bullet proof glass was kind of scary and it since it seemed like I was gonna be on the wrong side of the glass, I opted out! I never had seen that on the north side.

IIRC, it was on Sheridan. I went! I went! But they closed it and now the closest one is south of the loop.

Brown's is still pretty good for fast food fried chicken. Far and away better than KFC. They seem to be struggling to find a menu, though. Still have lots of extras, pasta, and now beef and dogs. Problem is, the other stuff just doesn't sell as much, so it's just ok. I think many folks find friend chicken to be unhealthy, os they are trying to broaden the menu, but I think they'd be better off just sticking to what they do best.

Biscuits are good, but I can't say that I'd go out of my way just for a biscuit.

Brown's is always my preference for fried chicken, although if you can get the Jewel chicken when it's fresh, that isn't bad.

That is strange, I've always passed up on Browns Chicken after the Palatine massacre... A relief to know I'm not the only one who is still timid about entering one.

Like glg mentioned above, the Brown's Chicken murders were solved back in 2002 after an ex-girlfriend of one of the killers went to the police.

Between the drop in sales after the Palatine incident (which nobody will forget for a long, long time) and KFC, it's really quite amazing that Brown's is still around. Other articles indicate the owner was being pushed to file bankruptcy but managed to hold out and refinance some existing notes to stay in business.

Not a place I visit only because I try to go for healthier food, but maybe I'll treat myself at some point. Always happy to help out a local business -- why else would I fly United?
