What were the little sweet glassy noodles and sauce on the shrimp? I think it was the #3 special: 2 ribs/ 3 butterfly shrimp/ fried rice and cookie
Bergoffs on Adams
Bread with butter, chocolate cake and root beer, please. Everything else was a bonus
Miller's Pub on Wabash
Wabash Inn on Wabash
Vannie's on Wabash
Pixley and Ehler on Wabash
Woolworth Counters
Walgreen Counters
Davidson Bakeries
Beef & Brandy on State Street
South Side:
Tropical Hut on 57th Street
Tender Beef in a mushroom gravy that I have never found to be duplicated
Hank's Ribs on 47th
Lem's Ribs on State
The Original Harold's Chicken on 47th

Still have not found that Tropical Hut gravy recipe. Correction, Miller's Pub was on Adams side. They tried to duplicate the Harold's magic in Las Vegas, it did not travel well and quickly closed. Jimmy Wong's, Bergoffs, Miller's and Wabash Inn were the special spots our office group saved up for to celebrate birthdays. The office was Procter & Gamble when they had 3 floors in the Home Federal building on state and Adams. In addition to the above, we were across the street from Montgomery Wards, quick trip to Ronnys Steakhouse, Sears, Goldblatts, Wieboldts, Carson Pirie Scott, Marshall Fields, Chicago Theater, State Lake Theater, Oriental and United Artist.
South side we had the Regal , Met and Tivoli Theaters for movies and live shows.

Miller's Pub is still on Wabash, just north of Adams. And Ronny's Steakhouse is now in the Thompson Center at Lake and Clark, though I don't know anyone who would ever go there!
Do you remember the Sherman House, which was on that block? We used to go there for the high school band clinic and would eat at Diamond Jim's (IIRC) - on Dearborn? There was also a Wimpy's on Randolph, I believe. Also, Stop and Shop on Washington and a deli between Wells and Clark on Washington, the name of which escapes me at the moment. I had many corned beef sandwiches there when I worked across the street.
Thanks for bumping this thread! Lots of memories.
