Tommy Nevins Pub, Evanston, IL

Tommy Nevins serves some typical Irish pub grub, typical American pub grub and attempts some upscale items. Generally it succeeds on most levels.

Nevin’s corned beef has great flavor and is very tender, BUT, for some reason the chef continues to cut it very thick, as a result, your sandwich has this chunky un-appetizing appearance and does not eat well.

The pacific oysters appetizer is outstanding. The oysters have a very light batter on them and are served with a delicious remoulade sauce. If this appetizer was at Le Francais, I would thoroughly enjoy it as much as I do here. I’m thinking next time of just asking for some bread, lettuce and tomato and make my own oyster po’boy.

Good salads are served here as well. One good one IMO is the chicken almond salad.

Nevins also has live music. You can obtain ticket and schedule info at http://www.nevinslive.com I like the blues jam night on many Sunday nights.
