Report on the Palm

Against what others have raved about NoMi, I decided to take my girlfriend to the Palm instead, since it was 1 block away from my apartment and she does not have to torture her feet on those heels

Straight out, I was very disappointed with the service and quality of the Palm and let me explain why. When the server brought us our glasses of water, my girlfriend's had 2 insects in her glass.

2nd incident, I ordered my Filet Migon Medium and when it came, the top was all black and I took a taste and it was bitter to the core.

3rd incident, the bread basket had soggy bread sticks that were not at all fresh or crunchy.

4th incident, my iced tea was refilled once, when I received the check for the meal (my glass had been empty since our appetizer arrived)

Maybe I am too picky, but when I go to an acclaimed restaurant, paying $120 for my meal, I expected something better

I feel sorry for your bad experience at the Palm. Everyone I know including myself choose never to eat there for almost precisely the same exact probleIs you describe. When I am in chicago i much prefer the Capital Grille and The Chicago Chop House.

AAFlyer81,

Thanks for your reply. Although I have just moved to Chicago, I have been here pretty often to have a taste of other fine food establishments. Lawry's, Chicago Chop House, Bob Chinn's, Le Titi all have been excellent experiences.

I will not go to the Palm again

Well, I usually like to give a place more than a couple chances so Mrs Sweet Willie & I went to the Palm this evening. I was inspired by this thread fromt the Dining Forum http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=586046 it basically states that the Palm during a certain time of year has a lobster dinner for two. Having not been impressed with the Palm's steaks, I thought we would go for the lobster.

One chooses between a 4,5, or 6 lb. lobster. Along with this comes two salads (house or Caesar) two sides, and coffee or tea. Here are the details http://www.thepalm.com/promodetail.cfm?promo_id=41

Bar was hopping, restaurant was dead at 6:30pm on a Thursday night. Only 8 other tables were filled.

Ceasar salad was quite good despite no anchovies. Wife said the house salad had way too much dressing.

We chose a 5lb lobster which when it came had the body of a 5lb but not the tail. I've had more meat out of 2lb lobster than what we experienced this evening. This lobster had been sitting around for quite awhile and with no exercise, the tail muscle shrinks to the skimpy thing it was.

Hash Browns are 1/2" strips of red potato and were good but SWIMMING in butter

Grilled Asparagus were quite tasty, done right ^

so-so wine list, not a wide selection for a steakhouse.

This last experience has pretty much made up my mind that I will not be returning to the Palm.
