YQB to GRB

Hello,

I will need to go to WIS and UP in June.

I have always flown to US from YUL, which has US Customs.

However YQB is much closer from my home, and there are YQB to GRB flights with only one stop, like from YUL.

Would I clear customs in GRB or in ORD upon my connection?

Is it an hassle to fly to US non-major airports from a Canadian non-major airport?

Thanks

David

YQB does not have US pre clearance, so you go thru customs at your first port of entry into the US. If your connecting point in ORD, that is where you clear customs and immigration.

Thanks for the clarification.

Therefore, I need enough time to clear customs in my connection.

Best then is to fly from YUL...

The options to get from YQB to GRB with just one stop are pretty limited -- you'd be looking at United through O'Hare. Looking at this summer the connection in ORD would be just over 2 hours, which would be time to clear customs and get to your connecting flight. Given that your YQB-ORD flight is at 8:00am and that's the first flight of the day I'd think that would be pretty ample time-wise if you chose to go that way. I don't think that's a serious danger, and you've got backup ORD-GRB flights if worse comes to worse. On the way back it's a longer connection in ORD, but since there's just one ORD-YQB flight that's probably the way you want to have a longer connection just to be safe.

If you decide to do YUL you've got a lot more options to GRB, of course. Or you could even fly into ESC or MQT, though with fewer choices.

I have looked at MQT. The problem I have is the car rental, more limited, and I need to give the car back at another airport.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your feedback is appreciated.

I have two flights to US from YUL coming up (MSP and BIS). I'll see how customs clearance go, and will book the third trip according to how it went and feedback from you people.

I didn't realize until this thread was posted that DL no longer has a YQB-DTW flight! I wondered why OP didn't mention that as an option.
