Walk from MDW to Hotels?

Is it possible/prudent to walk from Midway airport to the nearby hotels, e.g. Holiday Inn Express (via White Castle on West 63rd?!) instead of waiting for a shuttle bus?

Sure, assuming you don't have too much luggage and the weather is decent.

Or mind getting mugged on Cicero.

Odds of this are about a million to one. Really, there isn't a mugger behind every bush in Chicago!

You are talking about the one at 6500 South Cicero?

It's about a mile (8 blocks per mile, MDW is about 5700 S). Not a terrible neighborhood, but not a great one either. Daytime OK, nighttime maybe sketchy.

I am not certain there are sidewalks the whole way, can't recall. I'd take the shuttle.

If going for food, try Giordano's (pizza), 6314 S. Cicero, in preference to White Castle.

This might get posted twice; wi-fi at this hotel is horrible.

Ended up taking shuttle, as it was right on the "border" (mid 40's and I had a suitcase). White Castle looked to be about 2 long blocks from Holiday Inn, with a BK and McDonalds between WC and hotels. Saw zero (0) people walking around that area, and it was unclear if there was a continuous sidewalk, but looked pretty "normal" in that I would have attempted to walk from Hotel to White Castle after unloading luggage if it hadn't started to rain.

Ended up eating horrible take-out from TGIF while watching Bourdain eat Iberian Ham on TV.

ObFTInfo:

Door #2 to red shuttle bus ("Midway Hotel Group" or something like that), comes every 20 min.

LOL at getting mugged on Cicero. MDW is in one of the lowest crime neighborhoods in the city.

The stretch of Cicero toward the Interstate is a different matter.

Keep an eye out for the priests at MDW, though:
