Day in Omaha, NE

I have a day in Omaha with my daughter on our way through the US, due to get to Omaha on the 5th July, spend two nights there and depart early morning on the 7th July (all travel on Amtrak)

I'm thinking that my 4 year old will probably like to spend most of the day at the zoo (no problems there ) however as a massive Fred Astaire fan, is there anything in Omaha to mark it as Astaire's birthplace that we could visit?

I'd also like some recommendations on where's good to eat
We're staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in downtown Omaha, anything within walking distance of there would be great!

TIA

The Old market is within walking distance. Blocks of resturants and shops. It's a must visit area. The Zoo is one of the best in the country. Here is a link with things to do during the time you'll be in Omaha. http://www.visitomaha.com/visitors/things-to-do/events/

Have fun

You'll both like the zoo. I also forgot to mention there is a great childrens museum downtown. Here is the link for the childrens museum. http://www.ocm.org/

Well we only spent 4 1/2 hours at the zoo also found the house where Fred Astaire was born so that made up for being 4 1/2 hours late getting to Omaha
