If the OP wants a glimps of what Chicago has to offer, take a look at this

I know my photos do not do justice for the city. You must see it for yourself.

Well said, peersteve. Unfortunately, generalizations often are unhelpful and erroneously keep tourists out of some of the best attractions and neighborhoods in Chicago. I would never want to dissuade somebody from visiting the Museum of Science and Industry, for example.

Thanks all for the super useful feedback! One question... Is lake Michigan warm enough for swimming in June?

June can be dicey. If we've had a string of hot days, it may warm up enough, but it can also still be pretty chilly.

Lake Michigan is usually not warm enough to be comfortable even in late August.

That said, lots of people go swimming in it. If it's warm out, the bracing water can feel good. And it's not like it's icy...just not "warm".

Thank you for spotting an error. Corrected.
It is 900 N Michigan. I think Bloomingdale is here and Hancock is slightly across the street.

Never. Two weeks in late August if it's been a hot summer. However, children don't seem to mind.

Chicago ranked as the top town for foodies in AAA’s latest restaurant guide, a title the city is holding for the fifth year in a row.

The AAA Motor Club gave seven restaurants in Chicago five diamonds for 2011, the travel agency’s highest rating. Las Vegas ranks second with five restaurants, and New York is third with three.

One piece of advice I'd give is to stay reasonably close to the loop (though not in the loop, since it's kind of dead at night). The public transit in Chicago is really most convenient for getting between downtown and the neighborhoods. It's a little tougher to get between the neighborhoods, and often involves making transfers, which can significantly add to the time it takes to get anywhere, especially during off-peak times. The Westin River North is reasonably close to the blue, red, and brown lines, and walkable to downtown locations like Michigan Avenue, etc. It's also close to Frontera Grill, which is a great restaurant.
