Hotels in DTW. Recommendations needed

Am visiting a family member staying at Inkster, Michigan (which i believe is just outside of DTW). Was wondering what would be a decent place to stay at out there in the 100$ a night price range. Am in the base level in a couple of hotel programs, so the hotel options could be from either Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton or Starwood..

Any recommendations anyone...??

If you're not going to have a rental car, I would stay at the Hampton on Merriman road --- just north of the airport.

Has the advantage you could use their shuttle.

There's also a Courtyard in the same cluster.

The folks i'm visiting have a car and so transport should be sorted for the most part. Was looking at something near Inkster so that it wouldn't be too much off a commute for them to come pick me up..

From the Detroit Airport, Merriman Road runs north to cross Highway US 12-Michigan Ave in Inkster.....so the Detroit Airport area hotels (other than the Westin) might be convenient, if your relative feels that driving south on Merriman Road is not too far. Most Detroit Airport hotels are along Merriman Road, north of Highway I-94 and north of the Airport, such as the Marriott and Courtyard, Hilton, Crowne Plaza, etc.

In Inkster, there are a variety of small motels which are not part of a national chain, so it may be best for your relative to see them in person to see if they are acceptable. These local small hotel/motels are along US12-Michigan Ave, for example:
Aplpine Hotel at 26131 Michigan Av
Avon Motel, 28505 Michigan Av
Budget Inn, 26040 Michigan Av
Evergreen Motel, 28473 Michigan Av

A full list is at the City of Inkster Business list web site:

http://www.cityofinkster.com/Busines...y-Business.htm

Hope this is helpful!

Dearborn, just east of Inkster, may be a better bet. Just about every chain and quality level is clustered around Ford HQ, UM-Dearborn and Fairlane Town Center.

Have you looked for discount rates such as AAA -- you may want to look at some of the other FT forums to get ideas.

Have read about the res. codes one can use for the Marriott reservations. I believe the same are there for Hyatt and Starwood bookings as well, although havent' checked them out as yet..

I would recommend the Hilton Garden Inn Detroit Metro Airport. The hotel is only minutes from DTW and you can use their shuttle to get you to and from the airport as well as your rental agency if needed. The hotel is clean and the staff is very friendly.

Through IRROPS at DTW I've stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn near the airport. the staff is nothing less than hospitable. Good breakfast and extremely prompt and friendly service. They remind of the service and efficiency of the Ibis Hotels I have used in Europe. For a stay near DTW, they will forever be my first choice from now on.

I grew up in metro detroit. Love it there!

I would stay somewhere off of 275..maybe like Novi or Northville

Livonia is good (my hometown) Or just shoot for something off of 696 say west bloomfield etc!

How does the whole breakfast thing work with the Courtyard and the Hampton inn properties near the DTW airport. Are you charged separately for it or is it included in the tariff?

Couldn't seem to get clear information from the respective websites as well.

Courtyards don't have a complimentary breakfast. I think Hamptons provide a continental breakfast, no hot dishes.

Those suggestions are fine if someone has a car, but if they don't doesn't make sense as they're a bit of a hike from DTW. In the OP's case he was trying to find something near Inkster where friends/relatives were.

Cheers.
