Hi all,
Micthell Airport's website is reporting that Delta will start Milwaukee-Orlando in February. Can anyone confirm this? Also, does anyone think that this means that Delta is looking to challenge WN in MKE? Besides DL, nonstops on the route are also offered by FL, WN, and F9 for awhile. |

Flew MKE-PHX on WN yesterday. The lines for security were fairly long and I don't really ever remember seeing the C concourse that busy. Though I guess part of that may have been related to the post-Thanksgiving travel rush. Like mizzou mentioned FL is using gates C18, 19, and 20, but WN has their stuff set up at those gates too. Also all the employees were dressed in WN attire.
All FL boarding is now done by WN Ops agents. There are now three (normal) Customer Service counters. One serving C14-15 right alongside Alterra. The two others are pretty obvious left or right on the hammerhead. And a fourth if needed is by C-17. Those counters WN style handle all blue sleeve preboards, gate check tagging, standbys and irop problems. Elites... at T-40 those new Customer Service counters are the place to inquire about upgrades. |
Noticed today they pulled out most of the monitors at the unused D gates, leaving an unsightly hole. Even some of the gate desks have been removed...

I mentioned this a while ago and so have others...isn't it time for this thread to move to a new home? As an F9 flier, in 2012-2013 I have about as much interest in MKE as a JetBlue flier has in Charleston.
No arguments over the content of the thread, only over its home. Seems to me that it should go where most airport threads go - Destinations. Destinations\America-USA\Midwest seems perfect. You can share commiseration with those who bemoan the emptiness of Lambert/STL. :D :D :D |
Airport Shopping
MKE gets recognition from the New York Times:
For some travelers, quirkiness is the draw. Rustin H. Wright, the publisher of Streetcar Press in Portland, Ore., said he liked shopping at Renaissance Book Shop in General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee. With both new and used books, and a large aviation history selection, Mr. Wright said, “They are totally not what people think of with an airport bookstore. They are kind of funky and it is a very Milwaukee thing.” Mike Lowrey, an employee of Renaissance Books, said it was among the airport’s few remaining independent stores, defying what had been the common belief that “the only thing business travelers’ delicate sensibilities can bear are familiar, upscale, nationally advertised, brands.” |
winter storm headed for MKE
Hi all,
I realize this is a bit premature, but it's looking like MKE may get a winter storm this week Wednesday into Thursday. I have a flight in to MKE on Friday afternoon and was just wondering if anybody on this thread could speak to the abilities of the airport for dealing with big winter storms. Can I reasonably expect to have a delay-free flight in to MKE less than 24 hours after a big snow storm? Thanks. |

Nope. It's going to be tough and alternative airports are even tougher. If the snow piles on and the runways aren't cleared, you might have to spend some time stuck in Chicago-Midway (if they're cleared there too). It's going to be rough flying into the Midwest during this season.

Forecast calls for mostly rain Wednesday night and turning over to snow on Thursday. Right now they are only calling for an inch of snow at the most. I doubt this first snow fall will even stick to the roads if the forecast holds that is :)

At this point MKE on Friday should be ok... Travel in the afternoon though would be totally dependent on where that aircraft flies earlier in the day. It could get hung up on weather further East. CLE lake effect for instance.

If your final destination is WI or northern IL, road conditions may be more of a factor, as very strong winds are expected. The airport is not far from Lake Michigan and is south of downtown - areas that are expected to receive 2"-4" of snow. You may want to call your carrier 4 or 5 hours before scheduled departure, to see if there is any delay of the inbound equipment. BTW, there is currently no prediction of any additional precipitation over the next 5-6 days for the local area, after this storm moves through. I hope your trip goes well. |
Thanks for the replies everybody. We're flying WN so I have no idea where that plane is coming from but it's probably not an out and back (MKE-SEA-MKE) so I'm not too worried.
