Emergency at O'Hare?

A friend of mine was driving by O'Hare about an hour ago and saw a plane in flames on the runway. I searched, but found nothing. Anyone?

My guess is Fire Department training. I see this quite often when landing at different airports. They usually practice on an old fuselage of some sort. Occasionally I've had captains come over the intercom to tell folks not to be alarmed.

Lets hope that's all it was.

I just checked a bunch of the local breaking news websites around town and there is nothing.

Nothing on the official O'Hare web page either ... except the usual delays for a stormy day

DEN has a small fire fighter training facility, which has some small fire pits, and a shell of an aircraft that they light on fire throughout the year.

This link goes to the fire training facility, and even has a video of the fire fighters putting out the jet fire...

Hopefully only mistaken training exercise. In which case, did the "airplane" on fire look like this one. (link to Google Maps, ORD ARFF BBQ pit)

At the Northern corner of O'Hare by the Higgins bridge, the Chicago Fire Department has their "aircraft" fire training area. It looks like an old DC-10 but only shorter with stubby wings. When they ignite the "aircraft", you can see the thick black smoke for miles. Lately, they have been doing quite a few drills each week.

If it was real, you would have seen and heard it on the news/internet.

I had no idea that this training took place at ORD or DEN. Interesting.

They do the training there regularly, and it usually results in a few panicked phone calls to radio stations and police reporting a crash.
