If none of this matters, why do you and another AirTran supporter on this board keep talking about it? As long as you two keep bringing it up, I'll keep responding to it. Just the facts.

The facts are that cookie campaigns were waged and promises were made to the employees and people of Milwaukee. Midwest is on a downslope after cutbacks and Skyway.

We'll see how things are after the restructuring but I fear the worst.

The facts are, the AirTran nominated Board members could not support a sale, the offer was undervalued, the plan was unsustainable. You still haven't told me why they couldn't support it after getting paid $40,000 each.

YX802 - the shoe has dropped; Midwest parking all MD-80s (just as I predicted). It's very sad.

There is nothing I can do for those who drank the Hoeksaema/TPG/NW koolaid, it has psychoactive properties.

Midwest will survive, and when it's over it will be a stronger and better airline. I noticed your favorite airline is busy selling more aircraft. So, don't get your hopes up too high. The entire industry is in survival mode. Including your favorite airline. There is no white knight out there, and your favorite airline certainly wasn't the white knight in 2007.

I've done the one stop in MCI, and if that's what we are left with, it's fine with me. Same aircraft, just a brief stop.

Thats good to here but it still remains unclear how a smaller limited (by the types of planes that they fly) airline can remain a viable airline. While the industry conditions are terrible right now, Midwest Air is extremely venerable without its MD-80s. What is stopping Virgin America from launching MKE-LAX? (if the ORD thing doesn't work out) Midwest cannot answer that. What is stopping Southwest from launching MKE-LAS, MKE-PHX and MKE-LAX? Not to mention your favorite airline from Florida:D. I am becoming increasingly concerned that Midwest Air's days are numbered.

We should have a clearer picture of what Milwaukee is left with next week when the plan is announced.

To get to your real question, would I ever fly your favorite airline? No way. I'd fly any other airline, but them. That is one of the sleaziest companies operating today.

YX802 'fess up, you never have tried Air Tran have you? How can you make these statements when you have no first hand experience? You are all talk and ought to try Air Tran business class.

I've tried both Midwest and Air Tran and they both have a good product. Midwest's cost structure and fleet sucks and is not sustainable. Those Air Tran 737s would have come in handy, huh? 30% fuel efficiency better than those crappy MD-80s.

I've flown coach class on AirTran, and it was like a cattle car. It reminded me of a flying bus.

I opposed the takeover for two reasons:

It was hostile with a capital H.

I dislike the low cost carrier product. Whether it is Airtran, Southwest or Spirit. I know Tim will remind me it doesn't matter, it gets you from Point A to Point B.

I'll agree with you on one thing, (the first time we've agreed) those MD-80's should have been replaced years ago when they said they were studying a replacement. It is now 2008 and YX is parking them.

I remain confident they will overcome this obstacle and be providing the best care in the air. People's livelihood is at stake throughout the industry.

Anybody have any guess how soon the M80s will be grounded? I've got a direct flight out from MKE-SEA next Friday. I wonder if I will be getting an email from the reservations department soon....

I just got off the phone with the reservations department, and the representative told me that "major changes" are going to be made in the next 30 days. Nothing new to report there. Not at all surprised that employees don't know (or want you to know) how soon these changes will be implemented and to what degree. This sure makes my family's travel plans on edge considering all the nonrefundable hotel and activity reservations we made for our week-long stay. I was really looking forward to our trip with three first-time flyers, but I think the whole time I'll be wondering what will happen if our flight gets cancelled or rerouted.

I suspect shortly after labor day, at least for most markets. Other than Vegas which has a peak in fall, the leisure markets all drop off pretty far after labor day.

I think these are pretty safe to say:

(1) We will see new schedules come out in the next several days (probably 5-10 days). At that point we'll have answers to our questions related to already-booked future travel or potential future trips.

(2) People already booked on nonstops which are discontinued will be rebooked on other Midwest flights or on other airlines.

(3) Front line employees never find out information ahead of time because there's too much risk of information getting out (especially to the media) ahead of time. Very standard stuff and not specific to Midwest or the airline industry.
