New Service Between DSM and LGA via IND
Midwest Express Airlines To Introduce Service Between Des Moines and New York La Guardia Via Indianapolis; Other Service Enhancements Planned
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, April 14, 2000 -- Midwest Express Airlines, Inc. today announced it will introduce one-stop jet service between Des Moines, Iowa and New York La Guardia via Indianapolis on June 15, 2000. The airline will offer two roundtrip flights each weekday. Midwest Express is able to provide new service to slot-controlled New York La Guardia because it obtained slots previously operated by Access Air.
Additionally, Midwest Express will launch nonstop service -- two daily roundtrips -- between Indianapolis and Boston in September. The carrier currently has a slot application pending with the U.S. Department of Transportation to introduce nonstop service between Des Moines and Washington, D.C. National in October.
Existing service between Milwaukee and Des Moines -- provided by Skyway Airlines, The Midwest Express Connection -- will also be enhanced. Beginning June 15, one daily roundtrip flight will be upgraded from turboprop to Midwest Express jet service. In late summer, other Milwaukee-Des Moines flights will be upgraded from turboprop to Skyway regional jet service.
In a Friday news conference at Indianapolis International Airport, Timothy E. Hoeksema, chairman and chief executive officer of Midwest Express, said the airline is pleased to be able to enhance both its Des Moines and Indianapolis service. "These new flights fill an obvious service void, and support our strategy of providing underserved business markets with our premium service."
