NYE in Dubai

I moved to Dubai a few months ago for a consulting project. My girlfriend is coming out from the states over Xmas and New Years, and were looking for something good to do on New Years Eve. I've looked around a bit, but was wondering if anyone had first hand experience and recommendations. There appears to be a lot going on at the Madinat Jumeirah complex (www.madinatjumeirahnye.com) but prices are quite high (anywhere from AED1500 to AED6000 per person) - is it worth it?

Thanks for the tips.

Everything on New years eve is expensive but there are cheaper functions like the Irish Village.

Might get some decent suggestions on www.dubaiforums.com
