You never know with the Saudis, but I have been pretty successful (myself and my colleagues, that is) getting business visas, assuming that your sponsor has a proper commercial registration and otherwise provides everything correctly. Also it takes a lot of time -- I believe that your sponsor has to submit the paperwork to the foreign ministry in Riyadh, where it is processed with unpredictable results.
However I could be wrong. It has been many years since I have submitted my passport for a Saudi visa. Hopefully technology has made the process much quicker.

My sponsor sent me two things, one is a letter in Arabic written to the embassy with two government stamps on it stating why Im coming and the details of my stay/business, etc. The other is some sort of certificate written in Arabic. These are the things that I was told to bring from the agency that Im doing business with who handles bringing US clients there. Hope that's all I will need. The letter of sponsorship is address to the embassy so hopefully that is what you mean...everything I have is directly off the "checklist" at saudiembassy.net...thanks for all the input everyone, hope it works!
