Thanks All,

I managed to get the overnight flight so will only need 1 night now (and arrive in the morning). Which is ideal as I don't want to waste 1 night hotel at a city when you arrive late.

I am considering the Madinat complex. But can't seem to find too much info on the Jumeriah homepage about it. It doesn't say it is a big shopping complex etc...

Also just wondering has anyone tried the PH at Dubai before, as I heard you get Limo transfer to the airport.

Also the rate at 1600 (AMEX Centurion rate) is not too bad. Given it will include cont breakfast and a 100USD spa cert.

Is the location good?

The actual shops within the Madinat complex are not worth bothering about, a lot of small shops all sellling a lot of crap in my opinion. However the madinat is close to the Mall of the Emirates, although I am not really a fan of shopping in Dubai.

The Park Hyatt is a good location for the Airport and the Deira City centre shopping mall is within walking distance. i think there may have been service issues there but these may have been teething problems, there are threads on the Hyatt board. I think for 1 night through Amex it could be a good choice especially with the 4pm checkout.

I've stayed at the Moevenpick in the Bur Dubai area. It's a very neat (but not extravagant) 5* property, and prices tend to be reasonable too. Location is quite central, and in close proximity there are a couple of malls and even a square (!!) with a cafe and a few fast-food places (feels more like a neighbourhood in Athens or Madrid than a DXB locale). I'm sure that the likes of the Burj or even Le Meridien will have more facilities, but you're only there for a day so I think seeing the city is more important than being in a resort you don't want to leave!

Rotana chain worth it?

Does anyone have experience with any of the Rotana Hotels in Dubai? Some appear to be nice and very moderately priced compared with other hotels at the end of December when I'll be there.

Rotana as a brand is generally fine, nothing special, similar to a crowne plaza or good four points, based on my experience. they give EK miles though
