Oman is not best country for ride shares, I am afraid. There's an app called OTAXI (which afaik only orders you a normal taxi) and the taxis itself look a bit shabby and drivers try to negotiate. I practically used hotel transfers to/ from the hotel. There's no Uber/ Careem/ Grab.

Having returned from my sojourn in Muscaf, I can report that Otaxi works well UNLESS you are at a hotel and need a taxi.. The Otaxi will come but park somewhere away where it is almost impossilrle to find! The best bet is to find a busy road and simply flag down a vacant taxi - then you need to bargain actively - worked for me 100% of the time, even while standing there with my bags and heading to the airport!

Otaxi is the way. Very cheap. But to add to what puchong mentions above, if you're in some of the hotels further out of the city (e.g. Shangri-La, Jumeirah Muscat Bay etc) then you'll have to pay a fortune for hotel cars unless you arrange something in advance...
