There is a separate line for LY for F/C (and Matmid elites) and then at security there is a separate line for C. I generally arrive there about 2 hours before if flying those early morning flights. That's when all the European flights depart and the beginning of LY's day.

If you have to stop and get VAT refund make sure you leave extra time ESPECIALLY if you purchased something you want to put in your checked luggage. You will have to show those items before you check in and then get your actual refund from the counter in the Departures Lounge area. The lines can, at times be long. --with people having no idea where they packed the item ( first counter) and freaked out that their item was sent in checked baggage ( second counter)--and they won't get their refund!

"C" is indeed Business Class.

Regarding LY C to JNB on the 767 - I don't have enough experience on the specific flight to tell you but...

The seat is one of the worst C seats currently flying. Yes, it is obviously much better than Y and you'll be comfortable, unless you are one who flies C all the time in which case you wouldn't be happy. It reclines a nice amount and I believe the seat remains comfy (as opposed to hard), but that's that.

The service is similar to other long-haul flights on LY, and I happen to be a big fan of the actual service provided by LY, both in C and in Y. So in that sense, unless you're comparing to only an airline like EK, you should be good. I like the LY C service more than I do on UA and more than I do on LX (usually). Others on this forum disagree with that and prefer LX, but overall, it's solid.

The food is standard LY C food. Surprisingly, not the best KSML in C around but very good with multiple courses.

thanks for the comments and the update....I am sure we will be ok having flown LY from HK but that was a 777-200....and yes we fly J all the time and only with oneworld carriers where we find CX and AA long haul pretty good

If you compare to CX and AA, the seat will be a downgrade. Downgrade also from LY 772. But the service will be an upgrade IMO from AA. As for food, whether upgrade or not will partially depend on if you generally get KSML or not. If not, likely downgrade from what I've heard about CX; no clue compared to AA.
