In such a case, my thoughts are:
  1. Your wife is very special and has some special arrangement/feature
  2. Your wife encountered a serious bug
  3. Your wife has a secret Israeli passport
  4. Your memory is faulty
I can tell you that we've tested American passports just to see, and no dice on them

I concur and Mr Pickles is probably confusing departure with Arrival, by Departures all US Passports are sent to the kyosks. So Mrs P did do it but on Departure and not Arrival , unless it slipped thru which I never was able to accomplish

Another data point, I concur with @pickles ; - there was a brief period when American passports were good to use upon entry.

Thank you. Perhaps I'm not losing my mind...

Do you know when this was?

In the case of Mrs. Pickles, it was mid-July last year.

Early June last year for my data point. Perhaps the test / experiment might have been for the Summer travel season.

I do not know if it was all foreign passports or just USA.

Were they saying something in the airport or was some material published? Just curious really

For my data point, nothing published, just officials pushing / gently encouraging folks out of line and to the terminals.

Same with Mrs. Pickles.

Timely ...

My flight is at 4:50a (!) on a Thursday to Frankfurt and I plan to be there at 1:50a. Travelling on US passport, fwiw.

Looks like the priority lines are only after the security check (I'm Star Gold, so I should be good here, ditto for access to the Dan lounge afterwards.)

How long would it take to get to TLV from the Renaissance (Tel Aviv beach) at that time of the night? Google says 30 mins, accurate?

25-35min ist a very realistic estimate that time of day.

4:30AM? I thought earliest flight leaves TLV at 4:50AM, or do you mean 4:30PM?
Not that it makes a huge difference, but during the day it might take 10 minutes longer due to traffic.

Right ... it's 4:50a (fixed the earlier post)

Ok ... this is just my experience, a classic case of YMMV.

Arriving early was a huge overkill for me. I got there at 2a for the 4:50a flight, and was in the lounge at 2:25a. I sure could've used the extra hour of sleep :o
