I wont say where Im driving from when heading to TLV for my departure flight, suffice to say alot further then PT is from TLV. I always load up with gas the night before and then head to my hotel, the next morn a 5km errand and then to the airport, never have I returned the car with the fuel gauge less then Full
Then again most times after getting the car and getting onto Route1 the gauge falls off of full. So Im basically bringing it back as I got it also 1 less item to have to do and if theres an accident on the road it can result by having to stop and fill up missing my flight btw does that Alon take CCs from Hutz? I tried at several up North and was told no way not even inside either an Israeli CC or ca$h. I always answer I dont have an Israeli CC and whats Ca$h The gas station by the airport does accept credit card, though for the self-service price, you might need to go inside OR go to self-service, play dumb, and get an attendant to deal with the credit card. |
The airport is about 18 km from Petach Tikva, which translates to about 1.5 liters of gas. I suggest filling up in Petach Tikva and forcing another 1.5 liters into the tank after the pump initially shuts off. This way the tank will be sufficiently full when you return the car and you will avoid any last minute surprises (e.g. they wont accept your credit card, etc) at the airport gas station.

AFAIK all car rental companies charge $27 extra for picking up or dropping off at the airport. Might be easier to return in PT and use that money for a cab.

2- it was $28 and Budget was $29.50, I did say 'was' as its now $39 not sure what it is for Budget probably $40.50 |
Thanks for all the helpful advice. In the event I returned the car where I picked it up, in Petah-Tikva. I've SDC'd to tonight's Polaris flight and will cab to the airport. Google Maps says it's up to 40 minutes with traffic so I'm allowing plenty of time.

Thought you picked it up @ BG. Google maps is correct for this time of the day rush-hour, but when you will be going it shouldnt take 40 mins, it takes me 40 mins from Jerusalem when its not Rush-hour |

If you're taking the 23:10 flight, 40 minutes from PT should be plenty. Gett is fine if you haven't had an issue, though they sometimes have been annoying with finding drivers recently.

TLV security time?
Not sure if I should post this here or in the Mid East forum, but here goes. I'm flying in J on UA85 Thursday from Tel Aviv to EWR and checking a bag. United says because of heightened screening to arrive 3 hours before departure, is that really necessary? I haven't flown out of TLV since last summer, before all the silliness, and was more than comfortable arriving 2 hours early.
Can anyone who's flown out of TLV recently advise? |
2 hours is more than enough.
|
Just note that it's the summer vacations time and there might be longer lines in security and passport control (no fast lanes for J).

Now to be fair my colleague was selected for 20 questions and enhanced screening due to his passport stamps, so it took him about 20-30m longer to complete the process. But that's still <1 hour. Note we are both US citizens, YMMV with other countries. |
