Transiting wine through Dubai

Hi,
My first thread.
In Aug 2014, my wife and I did a trip to the UK & Europe from Brisbane, flying Emirates both ways. On our return, we left Rome for Dubai for a 4 day stay, and bought 4 bottles of wine from a vine yard in Italy.

We are planning another trip next year to Europe again, and would like to bring say six boxes home to Australia with us, great wine.( 6 bottles /box)

Could we bring this amount, with Emirates,ex Rome again, and have a stay in Dubai for a week, then onto Australia.

Any information would be great.

Thanks bo777300

More of a question for http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ocean...h-pacific-461/ as it involves Australian customs. 36 bottles is getting towards commercial quantities. Well above the Aust duty-tax free limit.

The duty free import allowance into the UAE is four litres per person, any combo of beer, wine or spirits. I have never seen any way to exceed that limit by paying import duty.

The biggest problem I see is DXB. You can't have EK simply fly the wine on to Australia while staying in DXB. Thus you'll need to clear UAE Immigration and Customs. I don't think you'll be able to get that much wine through.

If you're going to do this trip regardless of the country you transit, it'll be best to just fly on home. While UAE will be harder then a lot, any country is going to have problems with you importing that much wine.

If you stop in Dxb you are only allowed 5 bottles of wine each.

If you transit you will be caught by the Oz rules of which I'm not familiar.

Seems like you should be shipping these given the amounts and paying the requisite duties to customs in oz? If you put them in the luggage hold specially packed they will also go through some potentially high temps (depending on when you travel) that aren't good for the wine.

If you are stopped for it in Dubai, just let them know you are staying a week, and then travelling onwards, and they may hold it for you in the customs area until your departure, when you will retrieve it for your onward journey.

If you try to get that much alcohol into the UAE, your stay is going to be more like 9 months (plus fine) than one week.
