Basra, Iraq

Has anyone been to Basra, Iraq recently? My company is invited to attend a trade fair in September and we would like to know if it is save to go and if there's the necessary infrastructure like international flights and hotels. Thanks for any input.

I was at DXB T-2 a few weeks ago, and the check-in counter next to me was for the IQ flight from DXB-Basra.

The entire queue was filled with what appeared to be military contractors and iraqis. I chatted with a couple, and definitely did not get the sense it was incredibly safe.

+1, have friends who work there as military contractors, not safe yet.

Basra

I was there in June, and though we had security, it was a very safe place. You have to take precautions, but I plan on going back with limited security. They have 2 major hotels that are nice. Many airlines now fly direct, RJ, EK, and more are added or are planning.
