Govt. contractor in Kuwait?
This company interviewed me several months ago for a job as a contractor supporting some kind of US government activity in Kuwait. Every few weeks I get an email that they are going to get their contract Real Soon Now. Supposedly the gig is 30 days at their US location, followed by 10 months work remotely, followed by 30 days in Kuwait. Last week they claimed they almost have a start date, and they attached several work rules: No use of public transportation in Kuwait. No personal cell phones or SIM cards in country.
Is this a legit offer based on the above? Is this a scam to get me to work in Kuwait for more than 30 days for less than the going expat rate? Is Kuwait a dangerous place for US nationals? Does the contractor probably receive hazard pay from the US government, and if they receive it do they have to pay it to me? What is the probability they will Shanghai me to stay past the 30 days? Will they take my passport? Will the disposable Kuwait cell phone and SIM card that I am required to purchase at the airport be either useful or inexpensive? Are there any other things I should know going in, other than what's in the State Dept. guide (e.g. it's real hot, and there probably isn't much to do on a US installation outside of working hours)?
