This Wednesday (8/19) I had a missed connection at IAD heading to MHT due to weather. I told them I am a 1P but they said since it was due to weather, no free hotel night around Dulles. From this information, 1P=star gold, it looks like United should have paid for the hotel room. Is this really the case?

My interpretation of *G here is any >international/foreign< carrier's passenger ... would seem to make sense. Thoughts?

The continuation of UA 933 from Dulles to Denver was scheduled to depart at 9:55 p.m. It didn't actually leave until 2:46 a.m. Got into Denver at 4:14 a.m.

Wow.

*G/1P only get hotel for weather/ATC if on an international itinerary (including the domestic portion)

The weather forecast for this afternoon at IAD should make for another challenging day for the schedule.

Near 2 hour delay and feel lucky

I was on UA49 IAD - LAX yesterday. Scheduled departure was 12:40 p.m. We left the gate on time and made it to number 5 for departure until the atc hold came. We left 1 hour 50 minutes late and arrived at LAX at just about 4 p.m. or an hour late.

Given what happened to many others at IAD I feel lucky.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile 6.0) 320x240; VZW; UTStar-XV6175; Window Mobile 6.1 Standard;)

Over the course of the flight, after the flight at SFO, and at the Red Roof Inn, I probably spoke with 15 people and where they were headed. One guy was going to BUR, one to OGG and the rest were all going to either SYD or MEL. Tough.

Does that imply that weather can make the IAD A experience even worse than normal  ?

During the summer, one should avoid all departures from around 2pm on if at all possible.

And it isn't just IAD. Bad weather at PHL or the NYC airports can F up the entire NE.

There were issues coming into DC late at night as well. My mother and father actually arrived a little early (12:37am last night/this morning) on their flight from Denver, but had to wait until roughly 3 am to get their bags. Oof.

That wasn't an "issue" at all; that's UA's IAD baggage policy at any time of day; IAD baggage handling sucks out loud, end of story.

Looks like this weekend may not be much better with T/S Danny passing by this weekend, I am inbound from DEN on UA316 and Connecting to UA952 to FRA on Saturday. I am already doing my research to make sure I get to where I am going as the last time I had to go into IAD it was a mess and it looks like this weekend the weather is not going to comply again. There are Thunderstorms predicted late Friday to Sunday IIRC (as of the weather report last night). Good luck to all traveling through IAD on Saturday!

IAD is a NIGHTMARE

I fortunately do not have to use at all, however last week was a first... Red Carpet club had no a/c and flight delayed by 2 hours after arriving from Munich. What a pleasure (NOT!)

Danny is looking like a non-event right now. I'm in NC and Danny, while it may come closer to the coast than Bill, is at this point neither very organized nor very strong. In addition, by Saturday, it will probably be off New England and clear of the Mid-Atlantic. Now summer thunderstorms are nothing new at IAD this time of the year.

And of course, weathermen/women are always right. :)

Of course, but the only other time I have had to go through IAD I had a lovely 6.5 hour flight from ORD-IAD with a stopover in PIT for fuel as we circled over Indiana waiting for T-Storms to clear. Best UFC I have ever done (IIRC $60) to be in an Intl Config 777 and got a good ammount of nap time in, I just have a bad memory coming back into mind and it makes me a bit fearful as I only have a 1h9m connection.
