Annapolis

Hotel/Dining options in Annapolis for one night getaway with Mrs. Dukenilnil?

Probably there for 2 lunches, 1-2 dinners, 1 breakfast, and 1 night.

Unfortunately, we are not seafood eaters, so that probably limits the best of the best restaurants, but we love the water and historic towns so thought Annapolis would be good.

Anything we shouldn't miss while there?

Thanks!

Wish I could help you with a non-seafood restaurant, but as far as things not to miss--I think the Maryland State Capitol Building and the Naval Academy are worth a visit. The former mainly because it is where the Treaty of Paris was signed (ending the Revolutionary War), and the place where George Washington resigned his commission (making him one of the first generals in history to give up power and go back home). The best part is that both places are free.

I haven't been to Annapolis in years but there used to be a great french restaurant, I'm pretty certain it was called Treaty of Paris about 1/2 a block from the state house.

Btw-when I was a page for the MD senate I used to give tours of the state house.

Chick and Ruth's Delly [sic] is the classic place for breakfast in Annapolis. Lots of atmosphere. Try to get there when they recite the Pledge of Allegiance (8:30 weekdays, 9:30 weekends). Many menu items are named after Maryland politicians.

Yin Yankee Cafe has a pretty good pan-Asian menu, particularly the noodle dishes.

Another French restaurant is Cafe Normandie. It's right in town on Main St. Try Reynolds Tavern for lunch. http://www.reynoldstavern.org/

Chick and Ruth's is classic but you might leave needing bypass. At least as of 15 years or so ago.

Plan to have parking problems. If you can park at the garage by Chick and Ruth's you'll do well. Leave it there and walk everywhere else.

I've never had any trouble with finding a (paid) spot in the garage attached to the visitor center. I assume, though, that most hotels have some sort of parking.

By the way, the harbor cruises may be touristy, but they're also a very pleasant way to spend some time on a warm day.
