best Indian in DC?
Any thoughts on which DC (not suburbs) restaurant holds the title for best Indian these days? Looking for a good place to take some guests in a couple of weeks. We really like Heritage (the one up in northern georgetown, not that dupont fusion crap) and Indique. Bombay Club I hear is good but not as good as it used to be.
Any others I'm missing that could contend for the title?

I found the Bombay Club to be decent, but highly overrated and exceedingly overpriced. I can't remember their nams, but there are 2 Indian restaurants in a row on the corner of CT and Calvert in Woodley Park. Avoid them at all costs unless you crave severe indigestion.

Rasika, maybe? Or is that too close to fusion for you?
I'm surprised by your strongly divergent opinion on the two Heritage locations, given that they're under the same ownership and their menus are (to my eye and tongue) substantially similar, albeit with slight differences. What about the Dupont location bothers you?

What is your feeling about Bombay Club? Better or worse than Heritage?

I haven't managed to get to Bombay Club yet, unfortunately. I thought Rasika had somewhat better food than Heritage (certainly nicer presentation and service, slightly fresher ingredients), but perhaps not enough to justify the increased price, particularly given the portion sizes. Personally I prefer Indique Heights to both.
Heritage has the benefit of being an RN location, of course.

While I have only eaten once at the Dupont location, I found it quite different (in execution of the same dishes) and definitely not as good as Georgetown.

Update: Thanks for the Rasia suggestion! We ate their last night and I was really really impressed. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. I would put it up there with some of the better indian meals I've had in London. Really, really good stuff. I highly recommend it. ^

Looks like you've had your Indian in DC?
Glad you got to try Rasika, which I would put at or close to the top -- can be pricey, but very good.
Indique (on Red Line metro: Cleveland Park stop) is also very good.
Heritage in Dupont is over-priced and not nearly as good as the other two.
Bombay Club is good also, if a little over-priced. It defintely has the feel of 'old Raj' about it.
Having lived in London and just been back there, Indian restaurants in Blighty are generally cheaper and a good cut above their US counterparts.
But for fusion Indian and a high-class ambiance and meal, Rasika is top notch.

I like Minerva's dinner dishes, but I've found the buffet (which I believe is only served at lunch) pretty disappointing in comparison.
Minerva is a local chain, btw. I don't know how much variance between the locations there is, but there are locations much closer to DC than the Chantilly one.
