Try the Bombay Club. Best Indian food I've had in a long time. Not sure if it's open on the 4th but it's worth it to call them and check.^

In the past, excluding hotel restaurants, most restaurants in the mall area are closed. downtown is deserted.

The area you have selected for a recommendation covers some 4000 square miles. any other preference? near subway, downtown, nova, etc. prefer great wine menu? some kind of unsteak?

this is the quickest and dirtiest way to check. 2/3rds of the opentable restaurants are closed.

Although not listed, I would go to Finn&porter (900 10th st nw) with wife, and have a bottle of hobbs stagecoach, and a 2004 Williams Selyem ‘Rochiolli Riverblock,’ Pinot Noir Russian River, along with a couple of their vegatables. they do vegies very well.

you should do the same search for noVA if you are interested in noVA.

Thanks slawecki

I would prefer downtown D C with "fine dining" as it
is for a small celebration for a party of 4

I remember a good restaurant with a date (year)
as it's full name (something like "1876" but not likely)
It was either in or near Georgetown as I recall

Is there still an "Occidental" near the National Theater
Forty or so years ago that was very well considered

Thanks again

The restaurant you're thinking of is 1789 and it indeed is in Georgetown, up near the University.
