wireless and a place to work in DC
I have to spend a few days in DC without a good place to work. Can anyone recommend a good place to work and get wireless Internet? My ideal sort of place would be a coffee shop that wouldn't mind me sitting there for many hours and would have electricity outlets and free wireless. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks very much in advance :-:

suprisingly the DC public library system supposedly has free wireless access. however, word of caution - have not tried it myself and the system is notoriously under-funded so no guarantees about service or quality.

If you plan to be downtown near the White House, a fairly new Caribou Coffee now at corner of 17th and Pennsylvania Avenue -- pretty good size. Free wi-fi. Would suggest you patronize sufficiently to ward off nasty comments about staying around for the entire day.

I went to meet a friend at the coffee shop on 7th st se, near penn ave. could not sit, as all spaces were taken by campers and laptops.
I don't even think one had to buy coffee.
tough to compete against freee. just hard to pay bills.

One advantage to the purchased T-Mobile day pass over "free" Wi-Fi - T-Mobile offers WPA security. IF you're doing company business, as opposed to casual personal surfing and reading of FT
, then it is well worth it IMHO>

When I was in Washington last month, I needed a few hours of wireless access, and ended up at Panera in Chevy Chase (just across the Maryland line). If you're in Northwest, this could be an option for you. I was there from about 2 pm - 5 pm, had a sandwich and a bottomless soda and easy access to an outlet. They weren't at all busy then, so I didn't feel too bad about taking up a table for three hours.

A. Frequent our establishment more often because we have wi-fi.
B. Make an impulse purchase while you're there that would otherwise not have been made.

Try CyberStop on 17th Street NW in DuPont Circle. Their peak hours are in the evening so you shouldn't have a problem camping out during business hours although I will echo what Pizzaman says--- spend some money while you're there!

3rd on Murky. I know the owner pretty well. He pitches on my softball team. He also has a store right by Eastern Market. It is small, but has free wifi as well. The outside seating is great in nice weather.
