Christmas lights in DC

Any location recommendations for holiday lights displays in DC? Something that I can get to via the Metro? The White House had nothing this past week (although the OEOB did have some decorations) but think I saw something in one of the papers about Christmas trees being placed.

Thanks.

Living here, it seems like not much to see yet, maybe a week or so early. If you are just looking for things to do might try a walk up on Massachussetts Ave passed all the embassies.

The national christmas tree, etc. near the white house doesn't start up until next weekend.

The 2006 Pageant
This year the Pageants opening ceremony featuring the lighting of the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse will take place on December 7th. After opening night, from dusk on December 8th through January 1st, visitors will have a one of a kind opportunity to enjoy the Christmas Pageant of Peace site featuring the National Christmas Tree; smaller trees representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the 5 U.S. Territories; model trains; and the warmth of the Yule log. Additionally, on evenings from December 9th through December 23rd visitors will be treated to sounds of the Holidays as musical groups from throughout the region will perform on the outdoor Pageant stage.

Also see the attached link for holiday music at the Willard Hotel also near the white house.

The Mormon Temple always has an absolutely spectacular light show, but I am not sure when it starts. Sadly, its not easily METRO accessible, but you can get there with Metro+Bus. It's too bad it sounds like you don't have a car. Gaithersburg puts on a neat drive-through light show every year too in Seneca Park.

It is good. Also, if you get a chance try the Bull Run Regional Park light show in Centreville (VA). It's a few miles long, but ends at a place where they have a fire and a skating rink, and sell hot chocolate and candies. Makes for quite the romantic evening. (But I haven't been there yet this year so cannot say if it is the same!)

Thanks for these 2 great suggestions. I missed the actual lighting (did see it on TV back at the hotel) but went down afterwords. It was very nice and great to see all the lit, smaller trees surrounding the big tree.

Saw the end of the choral group at the Willard.

I'm looking forward to next week and the evening programs they are going to hold.
