DC for New Years

I'm planning a trip with my SO to DC for New Years and was wondering if there were any big events planned for New Years in DC? We are staying at the HGI Courthouse in Arlington and planned on hitting most of the major DC stops, but we wanted to see if there was anything special planned for New Years in DC. Thanks!

Besides some non-alcoholic First Night celebrations in the suburbs, individual restaurants/bars/clubs throwing their own celebrations, and a few black tie balls here and there, there is nothing much to do in DC for New Years. No fireworks, no big outdoor gatherings (too cold?), no block parties, no organized celebrations to speak of. My advice would be to find a restaurant, bar, club or ball to ring in the new year in DC.

Many of the bars/clubs/restaurants in Washington take the opportunity on New Year's Eve to host "closed" parties, rather than allowing people to come in and out all night. Some will require tickets/reservations purchased in advance, and some will allow you to pay an entry fee at the door. Either way, be aware that if you go this route you may have significant cover charges.

Presuming "we" is a couple with no children, a number of the top end hotels have very nice dinner & dancing for not all that much money($300 a couple). I have not yet seen any of the ads, but check with 4 seasons, the MO, the hay-adams, the jefferson, ritz, etc. I think you will have to call, as getting to each web site on the new improved google is hell.

Thanks for all the replies. "We" is just myself and my wife, no kids yet. We are just trying to see the world first. But thanks for all the help!
