I posted this in the "Other Hotel Program" forum, but may have better luck here. Has anyone stayed at the Comfort Inn Boardwalk hotel in Ocean City, MD? I'm taking my very pregnant wife and 19month old daughter for a quick break. Would have stayed at the Holiday Inn, but the price they were looking at was luxury-hotel level. Welcome your thoughts on this, and, for this forum, also on things to do while there (first time visitor!)

If you are going to the Atlantic coast of the DelMarVa peninsula, have you considered staying in Delaware? There are no taxes and it seems a bit nicer than the much tackier Ocean City. Go to OC for dinner or walk their boardwalk but stay in a tax-free state with a little nicer environment.

If you want to take Analise's suggestion I wouldn't go any further north than Fenwick. The Fenwick Inn is nice and usually has decent rates and is just north of the border between MD-DEL. There isn't alot to do in DEl and you definitely want to avoid Rehobeth.

I stayed at the Comfort Inn Boardwalk hotel in Ocean City, MD. We had a North facing room. There were oceanfront ones, then the ones facing the side (like we had) that you could see the ocean, but it was a side view, and not a very big one. Then there were some rooms above the pool. I'd say these rooms had just a city view.
We were racking up some Rapid Reward flier points so we stayed 1 day here, and the 2nd day at the Rodeway Inn. This was just 2 blocks north of the boardwalk, but was much nicer. They have mostly ocean front, but they do have parking lot view also. Both had a nice indoor pool, I think the Rodeways outdoor pool was better because you didn't have it right next to the boardwalk.

I stayed at an ocean-front property in Rehoboth and rather liked it. Now this was a few years back but I found it much less tacky than anything in OC. Rehoboth does have a lot of shopping but that's on the main street (route 1). Unlike the state of MD, the state of Delaware is friendly to beach goers so just go to OC for dinner, drinks, or miniature golf. ^

I would also like to know why Tazi said to "avoid" Rehoboth Beach. RB has the nicest places to stay and also the best restaurants in that area. I know quite a few people who have places in OC and then drive to RB to eat at the restaurants there. I assume his comments to avoid the area might be because RB has a lot of gay/lesbian residents and tourists. If that is his reasoning then it's pretty sad! It will be interesting to hear why he/she said to avoid it. FYI, Dewey Beach just south of RB is known for its college age scene if that is what you want. I surely would pick RB over OC any day! A much higher class vacation and like Analise stated....less tacky than OC.

I avoid Rehoboth Beach because several years ago during a visit. I put money in the parking meter, I returned to my car with 20 minutes to spare and already had a parking ticket. Meter said time was all gone. I appealed it. Later I got a letter stating the meter was fine. I just figured they never checked it. Out of state car, why bother. The town got it's last $ from me!

If I could get rid of all the tourists in DC just by nailing them with an unjustified ticket, I'd be printing them all night tonight.

That said, I've only been to Rehoboth a few times and it was long ago. I just found it to be lacking. Perhaps there is more there than when I visited years ago. I prefer O.C.

BIG BIG RB Beach!!!!
".....REHOBOTH BEACH -- Rocky Rourk's Memorial Day trip to Rehoboth Beach came with an unwelcome surprise. The stretch of sand the Crofton, Md., resident has been visiting since the mid-1970s had withered to a fraction of what it was.
Years of battering waves and strong ocean currents had cut so deeply into parts of the beach near Rehoboth Avenue and to the north that there was hardly room left for sunbathers. "We didn't have any beach 2 1/2 weeks ago," said Rehoboth Beach City Manager Gregory Ferrese. "We had about 15 feet of beach at high tide." Independence Day beachgoers can expect to find an expanse of sand from the dunes to the surf that is three or four times as wide as last year....."
