Have been to Pittsburgh a number of times but only for business with no personal time.

Looks like I'll have 5 hour layover in PIT coming up. Do I have enough time to get to the Strip (have some eats) and get back to the airport ?

Some other food suggestions I've read about, anyone have any thoughts or experiences with these places ?

Get a burger at Tessaro's, 4601 Liberty Ave., Bloomfield, (412) 682-6809
Hours: 11 a.m to midnight. No reservations. Closed on Sundays.

The Pastrami Rachel at the Smallman Street Deli. It's only a couple of years old, but if you make the best pastrami in town (cured in the adjacent building), put it on a quality rye, top it with crunchy slaw, Russian dressing and grill the thing to perfection, you can convince even the most skeptical that this sandwich ranks right up there with the best from New York's classic delis.

A banh mi in the Strip on the Penn Avenue sidewalk near 22nd Street. Under her umbrella outside the My Ngoc restaurant, Lucy Sheets has been selling scrumptious, cilantro-laden Vietnamese sandwiches on crusty French baguettes for over ten years. She's open (usually by 7 a.m.) seven days a week (and very late on Friday and Saturday nights.) Get there before lunch on busy Saturdays so she has a full supply of surprising peppers, grilled meats, fresh cucumbers, carrots, secret sauce and other goodies to stuff in these crusty French bread hoagies.

It would depend on time of day as to if you'd have time to get there. You might be better just hitting Robinson. There's a P-Bros in Crafton, on 60, along with the Sharp Edge Creekhouse, which is a beer bar.

If you're going to be there around rush hour, you don't want to try to make it to the Strip, or out of the city.

Actually...the closest Primanti Bros. to the airport is on University Blvd. in Moon Township.

Most of those are pretty good, but...

As someone who has lived in those "energetic neighborhoods", NO ONE EVER RIDES THE UV BUS. IT IS ALWAYS COMPLETELY EMPTY.

Also skip the Southside. Unless you want to go there and be glad you aren't the people who enjoy being there.

I love Pittsburgh, originally it started as a detour from yyz to phl to see the Warhol museum but the rest of it was good too

I can't deal with the submarine at the science center. It's far too small for my tastes.

Did the Pittsburgh Do get canceled? I tried the search logs and can't find any updates.

Thanks,

M
