Melrose or 1789 in DC

Will be in DC later in the month and am trying to decide between these two places for a nice upscale dinner with my wife. We will be staying at the Park Hyatt. Have stayed there several times, but have never had dinner at Melrose; but breakfast many times. Never eaten at 1789, but have heard mostly good comments about them as well.

Money not really an issue with this meal - first time traveling w/o kids in several years. Anyone have any comments one way or the other? Thanks.

I prefer Melorse for the more innovative cooking. Lacoste can do inovation, but does not at 1789.

Also, there is a nice dance band on Fri, Sat night at Melrose.

Reserve at either, as they do sell out.

Melrose without a doubt.

1789 is a bit stuffy, classic but unoriginal.
