1st time visit to DC
What's your favorite CHEAP restaurant in DC?
MID-PRICE?
TOP-END?
I'm making a list. We will be in DC for 5 days, so I want to make best use of our time. Got my maps, AAA book, Lonely Planet book.......Should I get an Entertainment Book?
(any restaurants to avoid????

Consider getting a Zagat Guide. With but one or two major exceptions, I find it quite accurate. I am not a fan of Kinkead, Galileo, Nora, or Taberna on the top end restaurants.
Maestro cooks well, and is noisy.
Citronell cooks best, and can be noisy.
Melrose cooks very well, and is quiet. Fri and Sat night has dancing to a nice band.
Have not been to Vidalia since recreated, but Jeff Bubin knows how to cook.
For mid range, try Jaleo(noisy) or Andale.

We have recently enjoyed Marcel's (Pennsylvania near 24th) and Butterfield 9 (14th near Pennsylvania). both would be considered moderately priced, the first being French with a Belgian flair and the second featuring New American cuisine.

Wow, I'd like to dine with our friend who thinks Marcel's is midrange! If you call 30-40 dollar entrees (granted delicious) midrange...
Anyway,
Cheap: Skewers, Meskerem, Aditi, Basil Thai
Midrange: Upstairs in Red Sage, Cafe Divan
Upperrange: Downstairs in Red Sage
Brunches: Nathan;s in Gtown, J Pauls... and my ABSOLULTE FAVORITE!! TABARD INN on N between 17 and 18

I'm a little bit biased, but they've really improved and become top notch in the last couple of months. New chef has absolutely transformed the menu.
Also definitely one to have on the list for pre-theatre.

I'm a big fan of Bistro Bis for brunch, too. $20 for 3 courses, anything on the menu, arguably the best deal in town. Same chef as Vidalia.

La Colline
Inexpensive for DC French food. Not in the downtown area. Not in French decor. Decent, not spectacular food with French flair. Definitely not Haute Cuisine.
The Front Page
Sort of a sports bar with food. Acceptable food. Lots of small rooms. Decent decor for what it is. Not terribly expensive.
