4+ Hours at PIT - What to do
So I'm taking my first Mileage Run ever - not that I need the miles, but I have a FFC to burn. Going EWR-PIT and back in early October. I'll have 4+ hours in PIT. If anyone's familiar with the airport. is there anything notable to check out? Is there anyplace good in the terminal for plane spotting? It looks like I might be able to see the runways from the far ends of the A and B Gates.
Mods: Forgive me for posting this in the UA thread, but I couldn't figure out an appropriate thread for this, since PIT doesn't operate as a hub for anyone.

There is a Primanti Bros. in the terminal. If you've never had one of their sandwiches it might be fun. I used to love when John Madden would go off on those sandwiches during a PIT home game.

Let me move this to FlyerTalk's Mid-Atlantic forum, where there are two threads involving PIT on that forum's current page. Ocn Vw 1K, Senior Moderator and UA forum Moderator.

Are you into dinosaurs at all? There is a life size cast of a t-rex by the airside terminal next to the people mover station to/from the landslide terminal.
There is also a Hyatt hotel accessible from the landside terminal - all indoors. You could probably pass time by doing some walking.
Of course, all this are predicated your flight would be on time. BTW, is your return flight the same aircraft as your outbound?

Relevant thing - PIT's "new airport" terminal is likely launching in late October. Currently, the airside and landsite are separated by an underground people mover and they just spent four years adding to/refurbishing the airside to hold everything.
Just saying, if its open when you travel seeing a "brand new airport terminal" might use some time.. BUT - no exact date yet.

Primanti Bros might be a place a good spot for lunch. I had them once and while I wasn't impressed, I'd give them another shot.
Dino cast sounds interesting. Anything like ORD B Terminal?
I don't mind a little exercise and my one carry on will be my backpack. Might bring my DSLR and a few lenses.
Not arriving and departing on the same plane. Taking the next one back. Taking the same plane back would have cost more than my FFC, and I promised my wife this would be a budget trip.
New terminal - Is the old terminal in bad shape? All I saw was what was on satellite images - I believe Apple Maps, a large X airside terminal with few parallel extensions at the far end of the A and B gates. I see where there was construction. I could see that a people mover was used between the airside and landsite terminal.
Is there any good plane spotting in the terminal, or outside in a walkable distance? It looks like the far ends of the A and B gates might have some Runway views if they are empty and the bridges are back far enough.
