DCA Terminal/Concourse Renaming
MWAA posted the slides for tomorrow's monthly board meeting.
https://www.mwaa.com/sites/mwaa.com/...s%20Update.pdf
This is the current layout:

Effective June 5, 2022:
- Terminal A will be renamed Terminal 1 and contain Concourse A, Gates A1-A9.
- Terminal B/C will be renamed Terminal 2 and contain Concourses B-E, Gates B10-E59
Here is the new map after the changes are implemented:

This should make navigating the airport less confusing, especially for connecting passengers. I have only one question. How are they going to rename Gates 43C and 44C? I feel like having a gate named D43C would confuse some passengers which concourse to go to. Curious on everyone's thoughts?

LOVE IT! The B/C thing was always bizarre considering it was one terminal with three (now four) gate areas but two terminals (??). This is much more logical and should end a lot of the confusion. I agree with you that they should use this opportunity to rename the xxC gates - maybe simply change to xxA ?

Umm. Why the need for Terminal #s? Just say Terminal A, B, C, D, E with corresponding gates with their letter/numbers. Makes the airport sound "bigger" (it's got FIVE terminals). For roadway signage the parking deck, drop off point, security checkpoint would just be keyed to terminal letter.

I like "Terminal 1" (what's left of the old terminal) and "Terminal 2" (the 'new' terminal built in 1997). It makes sense since within each terminal you can connect to any gate inside of security.
Speaking of the old terminal, when the 'new' terminal opened, I thought there was a plan to restore gates in some of the old terminal between the 'banjo' (current A gates) and the historic, original terminal. Guessing that's never going to happen...?

Correct. While there is a walkway between the old (T1) and the new (T2) terminals, it is not airside - it is outside sterile area. To access T2 coming from T1 one would most likely use the South Security Checkpoint.

Which makes sense that there would be two terminals. I think WMAA [finally] got it right this time.

That would be a little too much progressivism. They are still going to be 43C and 44C.
