Silver Spring questions

Is Piratz Tavern still there? I know they did that disastrous makeover of the bar and then changed it back, but did it close for good, or is it still around?

Have to go to DC in a couple of weeks but all the hotels in the District are so freaking expensive that I figured I'd stay up in SS. Would love to take a night at Piratz and then Quarry House. The Piratz website seems to be up and running still, but who knows.

Thanks in advance. Blar.

(Also, anyone know if any new good restaurants opened up in the past couple of years? I was planning to hit Mandalay at least once but wanted to know if I should spread my wings a bit.)

I have no idea if it's still running, but Quarry House (which is still going strong) will make the trip worthwhile regardless.

Heh - yes, absolutely. I think QH is really the best bar in the entire DC area.
