IAD Transfer

Hey all,

I'm returning to India from Buffalo, NY in a month and a half, on LH and had some doubts about transferring in IAD.

I'm booked on UA Express on BUF-IAD and then LH to FRA and finally MAA.

Which gate should I be expecting to land in, and which for departure of LH 419?

I take it I'll have to collect my bags and make my way to drop them off again at an LH desk before going through immigration and security?

How do I go about transferring concourses?

Also, my layover in IAD is 2hr5min, I should be ok right?

Thanks!

since upstate ny was admitted to the usa, i would think you will do all customs and tsa stuff in buffalo, which is much better than doing it at iad. your luggage transfers on. to find gates, go to iad arrivals and departures for today or tomorrow. you will probably have to transfer concourses at iad.

fra is a hell hole. transfers can be very ugly.

You'll probably just have a (perhaps long) walk from an arrival gate in the low As to a departure gate somewhere in the high As or in the Bs.

There is no "customs" on an international departure (from BUF or IAD or anywhere). If you have a US visa with a foreign passport, the stub of the I-94 form that was attached to your passport on arrival here will be collected by Lufthansa before you board LH419.

You will go through standard TSA security at BUF. You don't touch your checked bags at IAD - United transfers them to Lufthansa automatically.

LH419 usually departs from gate B49. The 2pm United arrival from Buffalo can use gates in A, C or D concourse. A and B concourses are two halves of one long building. Similar with C and D concourses. There is no security check between concourses.

If you arrive at an A gate (UA uses A1-6 for some Express flights), you just have a 15-minute walk to the Lufthansa gate. If you arrive at a C or D gate, carefully follow signs for transportation to the B concourse - it might take as much as 30 minutes gate-to-gate.

Lufthansa has a lovely lounge next to B51 if you qualify for entry.

Thanks for clearing everything up, much appreciated.

And I'm booked on J, so yes hopefully I'll have some time in the lounge!
