- The Doubletree Hotel has a revolving rooftop lounge
- The Potomac riverfront has very extensive parkland, with good views from north of I-395; walk there from Crystal City via the Mount Vernon Trail
- Long Bridge Park is a new park at the very north end of Crystal City with an elevated, tree-level viewing area
- A lot of people like to view the fireworks from hillsides behind the Pentagon (but not inside Arlington Cemetery), particularly the Air Force Memorial or Marine Corps (Iwo Jima) Memorial

i directed a couple of friends, new to dc, who were staying nearby to pack some water and a bedsheet from their hotel in a backpack, walk down to the mall, and spread out between the wash monument and the WW2 memorial. they said it was the best fireworks show they had ever seen.
meanwhile, i was at another friend's house for barbeque, where we watched the fireworks on tv via the "capitol fourth," featuring an animatronic barry manilow.
