787 Landing at DCA

http://www.flickr.com/photos/theboei...ny/7153000661/

Think we can get the perimeter rules loosened to allow for some new routes:
DCA-LHR
DCA-FRA
DCA-NRT

?

Wow, that was low over Gravelly Point! ARLnow has some details, like "media only tours."

I assume it's parked at the south end of the airport -- wonder if it's visible from the economy parking lot.

The WAMU report said that it would be there for a few days. Scuttlebutt elsewhere on the web indicates that it was just ferried over from IAD and would be here through Friday. I'll see if I can run over for a look sometime this week.

A video from Boeing showing tour groups of students and Boeing employees aboard, plus the presser with Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood:

I'd love to get out to DCA when it departs. If anyone learns of the time/date I'd love to see it?

Went to DCA yesterday. The Dreamliner is there between the A and B Terminals (near the USO Club). It departs Friday (11th) between 10 and 11 AM... or that's what the Boeing rep I spoke with said. ^

before you buy those dca-lhr tickets, check runway requirements for a loaded 787. it's around 10,000 ft. the solution is easy. mid flight refuel.

I ran by the airport yesterday (on the way home) - the tail is visible from the Mt Vernon trail (you'll see the huge 787 logo), but not much else is visible - or I couldn't see it as I wasn't going terribly slow.

Maybe a good place to see it (without tickets to a flight) would be the walkway between the Old & New terminals where you get a view on the rocking chairs?!? Anyone with details?

I'll be at home waiting for the sucker to take off on Friday, hoping to snap some pictures, but would only see it if it takes off to the North.

That is exactly where the plane is. That area was closed off for a private function (related to the 787) but assuming that area is open, it is right there up close!

I'll be there Friday to see it go. Either at the Marina to the south or Gravelly Point to the north.

They held tours for the Atlantic Innovation conference on Tuesday (I attended; great tour). As noted, you should be able to see the plane from the large viewing area between A and B/C. Like the other poster, the Boeing rep told me the flight to IAD would depart at 11am on Friday.

Courtesy of the DCAirports Twitter page, you can see the plane up close from the A terminal, near the Museum. https://twitter.com/#!/dcairports/st...698368/photo/1 This is outside of security.

I also attached a shot from the roof of my building http://www.brinkleys.org/users/tsl/Files/787.jpg Wish I was gonna be home when it takes off.

Soooo jealous of anybody hanging out at Gravelly Point as the 787 landed. (Me, I was on my way up to BWI at the time

11 a.m. Friday, eh? I just might have to bike over to National for the occasion--and hope the wind is blowing downriver.

My thoughts exactly.

Just drove by DCA on the GW Parkway and the 787 is now over at the Signature Flight Services area. I guess it will stay there overnight and take off tomorrow...
