Killing 7 hours ~at~ PIT? Ugh... That's tough. (You could drive back to Reston in about four-and-a-half

I would definitely go into town. Thirty minutes or so each way. But not sure what you would interest you enough to go there.

is there a bus that would go to/from PIT to down town or somewhere remotely interesting

Solved that problem
I got my ticket changed to a later flight cutting out half my layover so I'll kill four hours in the airport I guess
