Questions on hiring a guide at Chichen Itza

I'm in the process of setting up a trip that will include a first-time visit to Chichen Itza. I understand that one can hire a guide outside the entrance and have a few questions. Any feedback is appreciated.
1. Would you recommend hiring a personal guide?
2. What might the approximate going rate for a guide be?
3. Is a tip expected?
