Calling to Mexico
Hello
My daughter is travelling across Mexico and I would like to call her from time to time. I tried to call her with AT&T and Sprint but the rates are too high.
Can someone help me with a calling advice?
Thank you!

You don't say what rates ATT&t and Sprint are charging you.
Try looking at this site www.mychitchat.com The rates to Mexico look to be about 7 cents a min.
We use this to make international calls to the UK from our cell phones. The rates are the same (just remember that you might be using up your cell phone minutes as well) whether from a land line or cell. Also remember that if you call an international cell phone number there may be extra charges. In the UK most cell phone have "free incoming calls" which actually means the caller pays for calling that number.
Check out the Mexico charges. I know that ChitChat has been really good and economical for calling the UK.

my sprint bill
...it costs more for me to call my mom in California than it does in Mexico with their world program. If have forgotten the actual name but for a flat fee of a few dollars a month it is dirt cheap to call Mexico and for that matter other countries as well. I think my calls are like 5 cents a minute or less.

I have used noblecom.com for a while to call Mexico. I especially like their OneSecond calling card, which has no maintenance fee and one second increments.
I have had a very good experience with this card, with talking time in the vicinity of 5 hours for a 20 dollar card. However, I do realize that while I call very often, most of my calls are very short. If you plan to only call a few times but for a long time, then you might be able to select a better card either at noblecom or other company.
Good luck!
PS. If you are calling Mexico City, beware of the city code. The city code changed a few years back from 5 to 55, and local numbers also gained an extra 5. Local numbers are now 8 digits long, and 10 digits long with the city code added to them. That said, in some rare cases you might find numbers that are 8 digits long already with the city code and often calling 011+52+55+5xxx-xxxx will result in you reaching a different person than calling 011+52+5xxx-xxxx.

Try Net2Phone, they have two cards.
I believe both have a service fee of .99 cents a month.
Net2Phone Direct costs .05 a minute.

I Have found the best/cheapest international/National phonecard with NO FEES AT ALL!
Hi,
I just found the best international/national calling card on the planet, and thought I would share.
www.callingforcheap.com is the best. You get up to 473 minutes for free on sign up and there are NO connection fees, NO maintenance fees, NO commitment, and NEAREST MINUTE rounding! My wife now calls Poland for 3 cents a minute! We were sick of going down to the convenience stores and trying to find a good international phone card. We would buy one and bring it home to discover what was supposed to be a 2 hour card really only lasts 45 minutes after all the other charges they dont tell you about. www.callingforcheap.com also has 1.9 cent calling in the US as well! Anyway just thought I would share.
Good luck

Note that under some plans LD calls from the USA to Mexico are charged according to which rate band the call destination falls into. In other words, the deeper into the interior of Mexico one calls, the higher the per minute rate. I've seen ads for cheap rates to Mexico, but upon investigation find that the advertised rate is for rate band 1, which is the border area.
