Recommendations for Romantic Getaway

Recommendations for Romantic Getaway
Hoping for some guidance to getaway....romantic-wise looking for a bungalow type place with private cottages/cabins directly on the beach as to avoid the mega lobbies and elevators....but with the food/service/amenities one would find at say an Intercontinental, on the west coast of Mexico (and also in Caribbean to explain the cross post). There are sooo many choices surfing I'm just overwhelmed so I figured I toss this out to the travel experts here. Would really like to earn some pts too (AA, Marriott, *Wood, PriorityClub, Hhonors) but not sure if they can fit the bill so it's not a must. Snorkeling and other water activities, light shopping, with mild nightlife available too......throw in some ruins and/or historical stuff and I'd really be a happy camper. Based in FLL but also can fly out of MIA on AA. Thanks!

I would look at Zihuatanejo. I haven't stayed here yet, but my requirements were simlar and I will be heading here this winter.....

Definetely reccommend it! As long as you are not there in mid or late May when the high school kids go on their annual graduation celebration, you will find this place to be fantastic!!

Romantic Getaway, Tankah/Tulum area Mexican Caribbean
Check out www.CasaTropical.com for a romantic villa located on a 1/2 acre private beachfront property. 3 miles north of the Tulum ruins. Great snorkeling and Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve just south of Casa Tropical.

Places to Stay
The places near Tulum as suggested is nice and quiet. But to move around to visit some of the ruins like Chichen Itza would require a car. So if you are planning to see some of the sights, I suggest you rent a car in the US as rates were much cheaper as compared to booking in Mexico. Surprisingly, tequila/liquer was cheaper in town than at the duty free. If you are planning to take some back, I suggest you check the duty free store when you arrive so you get an idea on the prices.

In Zihuatenejo, I would check out Villa del Sol and La Casa Que Canta, both expensive but worth it. Villa del Sol is a bit less chic and more beachy. For something more reasonable, try La Quinta Troppo, which is simple and elegant. All 3 are all on (or close to) La Ropa beach, which is my favorite in Mexico, and after living here for 16 years, the one place I recommend everyone go to.
