UPDATE: The volcano erupted a few days ago, and continues to spew out ash in many cities including CDMX. AIFA (Mexico, City's Airport) has postponed some flights. Also the air quality is at phase 1 in CDMX and the Volcano Level is still at phase 2. Puebla International Airport is currently open, however it shut down a couple of times between Feb 14th and the 23rd.

Government recommendations if your area is affected by the ash:

If you notice volcanic ash fall in Mexico City, we recommend:

▶️ Cover water tanks to avoid contamination
▶️ Close doors and windows
▶️ Protect nose and mouth
▶️ Avoid physical activities outdoors

Right now mostly all the southern areas of CDMX are affected by the ash. And Veracruz has experienced quite a bit.

EDIT: CDMX removed the Phase 1 Alert for general air quality but has kept the ash warnings on the government websites

Puebla's airport (Hermanos Serdán International Airport) has suspended operations, effective 7:00am today. CDMX's airports are still operating, but some cancelled flights.

CDMX and Mexico State are back to Phase 1 Atmospheric Contingency, due to the ozone and pollution, which means only certain vehicles are allowed on the road. Give yourself a head start when requesting ride share vehicles. Electric ones are totally exempt and others which have certain type plates.

UPDATE: The contingency has been suspended. I will only post the next time if they raise the contingency phase to 2.
