Another issue these days is the Mexican "anti-laundering" policy. The threshold for bank reporting etc. is much lower than in the US ($10,000) and in Mexico it's caused people to have to write multiple checks under 5,000 MXN, iirc, or to go below the radar with larger cash transactions - defeating the entire purpose of the laws.
