Just realized I never posted the follow-up.
While it showed 18 nights online, when I got the email offer, it claimed that I needed 20 nights. Although, the promotion tracker has now returned showing it's only 18...

I got registered for this promo by Marriott and needed to stay 12 times for gold renewal. I was told by Marriott CS that Vacation Club nights would qualify, MVCI nights already count as night credits for elite status. Was hoping I would be able to get the gold as I had 5 nights in Nov and a 7 night stay at Marriott Waiohai. I was concerned when my recent Waiohai stay didn't register any nights on my promo tracker and contacted Marriott rewards who then informed me that MVCI nights do not count for this promo. There is nothing in the promo T&Cs or details that says MVCI nights don't count. The marriott rewards person said she would forward to her supervisor and I would get a response in 5-7 days.
It's too late to try and get another 7 nights to qualify.
